Meat Free Mondays

Updated: Jun 29, 2020

We looked at this important initiative and whether we could try it at RHS:

Meat Free Monday

Can you picture the world in twenty years time? Can you picture yourself there? When we can no longer walk through forests or breathe freely due to fossil fuels polluting the atmosphere! The environmental impact that meat consumption has had on the world is only expected to increase in the coming years.

We can help everyone by just starting with one day a week. ‘Meat Free Monday’ is an amazing idea and it can change lives. Did you know that 1,800 GALLONS of water is being saved just by not eating one pound of beef! When land is used to raise animals instead of crops, precious water and soil are lost, trees are cut down to make land for grazing or factory-farm sheds, and untreated animal waste pollutes rivers and streams. This is why Rupert House had the idea of becoming ‘Meat Free’ on Mondays…

The Year 6 led an assembly on ‘Meat Free Monday’ and sang Paul McCartney’s song ‘Meat Free Monday’. Paul McCartney and his family were the creators of the ‘Meat Free Monday’ campaign in 2009, encouraging people to help slow climate change, protect our natural resources and improve our health by having at least one meat free day each week.

I researched on meals that don’t contain meat. For example, you might want to make a delicious banana bread or have a pasta with colourful vegetables. Due to the current restrictions, the school kitchen isn’t allowed to be open so we haven’t been able to follow this initiative in School but from September we will be starting to enjoy Meat Free Monday meals in School – perhaps you could think of meals to give to the cooks?

Please enjoy some of our leaflets and information on Meat Free Monday and our campaign to save our Environment! Thank you.
